Yes. With every order you automatically receive an invoice with the VAT specified. Handy for your records, or to reclaim if you order for business.
Can I order VAT-free for business (within the EU)?
Business customers in another EU country with a valid VAT number may qualify for an intra-Community supply without Dutch VAT. Please contact us and we'll look at the options for your order together.
As a business customer, can I pay by invoice (afterwards)?
For business customers and larger projects, payment by invoice is possible in many cases. Submit a project request or get in touch; we'll be glad to discuss the options.
What should I do if my payment fails?
If a payment didn't go through, usually nothing has been charged and you can simply try the order again. If it keeps going wrong, or you're not sure whether your payment succeeded, contact us and we'll sort it out together.
Returns & warranty
Can I return my order?
Yes. After receipt you have a 14-day statutory cooling-off period to return items without giving a reason. The product must be undamaged and complete, preferably in its original packaging. Business orders and custom-made projects may differ from this.
How do I return a product?
Please register your return first at info@jaggsalarm.com with your order number. You'll then receive instructions and the return address. As soon as we've received the product in good condition, we'll process your return.
How quickly do I get my money back?
Once we've received and checked your return, we'll refund the purchase amount within a few business days using the same payment method you paid with.
Who pays the cost of returning an item?
The cost of sending a product back for an ordinary return is at your own expense. If it concerns a defect or an incorrectly delivered item, please contact us first – then we'll solve it together and make sure you're not left out of pocket.
My product arrived defective or damaged, what now?
How annoying! Please contact us within a few days of receipt at info@jaggsalarm.com with your order number and, preferably, a photo of the problem. We'll then arrange a suitable solution as quickly as possible: repair, replacement or refund.
How much warranty is there on the products?
All our products come with at least the statutory warranty, supplemented by the brand's manufacturer warranty (Ajax, Hikvision, Dahua or TP-Link). A defect within the warranty period? Contact us with your order number and a description, and we'll handle it.
Can I exchange a product for another model?
You can, within the cooling-off period. Return the unused product and place a new order for the model you want. Not sure which model suits you best? We're happy to advise you in advance, so you may not even need to exchange.
Installation & support
Do I get support with my order?
Certainly. As a specialist in alarm, camera and intercom systems, we're happy to help you – from choosing the right product before your order to technical help with the installation afterwards. Call or email us and we'll get you on your way.
Can I install the products myself?
Many of our systems are designed so that handy do-it-yourselfers can install them too, with clear manuals and apps that guide you step by step. If you get stuck, we're ready with advice or we'll point you in the right direction.
Can you arrange the installation for me?
For larger or business projects we can discuss the options for installation or an installation partner with you. Submit a project request or get in touch, and we'll look at what's possible for your situation.
Are manuals available?
Yes. Most products come with a manual, and the manufacturers (Ajax, Hikvision, Dahua and TP-Link) also provide extensive online manuals and instruction videos. Can't find something? Feel free to ask us.
Which network cable do I need for my IP camera?
For most IP cameras with PoE we recommend a solid-core UTP/FTP cable of at least Cat5e; Cat6 is more future-proof. For outdoors, use a cable suitable for outdoor use. Keep in mind a maximum length of about 100 metres between the camera and the switch/recorder.
In which colour order do I wire the UTP pairs (RJ45)?
For camera cabling you generally use the T568B order at both ends: white/orange, orange, white/green, blue, white/blue, green, white/brown, brown. Keep exactly the same order at both ends for a stable connection.
Can I expand my system later?
Yes. The systems from Ajax, Hikvision and Dahua are modular, so you can easily add extra cameras, sensors or accessories later. When you make your first purchase, it's worth keeping in mind the number of connections or zones you'll want.
Alarm systems
Does an Ajax alarm system work wirelessly?
Yes. Ajax alarm systems are fully wireless and communicate over a secure radio connection, which makes installation easy without drilling or chasing cables. Wired components are also available for situations where that's preferred.
Do I get a notification on my phone when the alarm triggers?
Certainly. Through the app you receive an instant notification on your phone as soon as something happens – a break-in, an opened door or smoke, for example. That way you're always aware of what's happening at home or at your business, wherever you are.
Can I connect the alarm to a monitoring centre?
Yes, many systems can be connected to a private alarm receiving centre (monitoring station), so that an alarm receives professional follow-up. Ask us about the options for your system and situation.
How long do the sensor batteries last?
Ajax's wireless components are known for their long battery life; depending on the component, a battery lasts several years. The system warns you in good time through the app when a battery needs replacing.
Can I combine the alarm with cameras?
Yes. An alarm system combines excellently with cameras and an intercom for a complete security package. That way you can watch live straight away when there's an alert. We're happy to advise you on a combination that works well together.
Cameras, recorders & intercoms
Are the products and menus in English?
The menus of Ajax, Hikvision, Dahua and TP-Link are multilingual and support English, among other languages. The accompanying apps are also available in several languages, so you can set everything up in your own language.
Can I watch remotely via my phone?
Yes. With the brand's app you can watch your cameras live from anywhere and receive notifications on motion. All you need is an internet connection on your camera or recorder and on your phone.
Do the cameras also work at night?
Most cameras have night vision (infrared or ColorVu). Models with ColorVu even capture images in colour in low light. On the product page you'll see, per camera, which type of night vision is supported and up to what distance.
How many cameras can I connect to one recorder?
That depends on the recorder (NVR/DVR): there are models for 4, 8, 16 or more channels. Choose a recorder with enough channels for your current cameras, and preferably a few extra for future expansion. We're happy to help you make the right choice.
What is the difference between an NVR and a DVR?
An NVR (Network Video Recorder) works with IP cameras connected via network cable (PoE) and generally offers the highest image quality. A DVR works with analogue/coax cameras. For new installations we usually recommend an IP system with an NVR.
How long can I review my camera footage?
That depends on the storage capacity (hard disk or SD card), the number of cameras, the resolution and the recording settings. With the right hard disk you can often keep several weeks of footage. Feel free to ask us for advice on the storage you need.
How do I add my camera, recorder or intercom to the app?
Each brand has its own app: Hikvision uses Hik-Connect, Dahua uses DMSS, Ajax uses the Ajax Security System app and TP-Link uses Tapo. Download the right app, create an account and add your device by scanning the QR code or the serial number. Can't work it out? We'll help you further by phone.
Does my camera or doorbell work only via Wi-Fi?
That depends on the model. Many cameras and doorbells work wired (PoE) for the most stable connection, while others connect via Wi-Fi. The product page states, per item, how it is connected. For important applications we recommend a wired connection.
I can't view live footage in my browser.
Live footage in the browser sometimes requires a plug-in or a specific setting. The easiest way to view footage is through the brand's app (Hik-Connect, DMSS or Ajax). If it doesn't work in the browser, check that you have the latest firmware and that the camera is properly connected to the network.
How do I find my camera's IP address?
Use the brand's search tool: Hikvision has the SADP tool and Dahua the ConfigTool. They scan your network and show the IP address of every connected device, which you can then adjust to your own network range if needed.
Can the camera also record to an SD card?
Many cameras have an SD card slot and can record locally to it, ideal as a backup or for small installations without a recorder. Whether a model supports this and the maximum card size that applies is stated on the product page.
How do I reset my password?
If you've lost the password of your camera or recorder, you reset it via the brand's app or search tool, usually with a security code or a linked account. The manufacturer asks for verification to prevent misuse. Can't work it out? We'll guide you step by step.
Where do I find the latest firmware for my device?
Firmware updates improve the stability and security of your device. You can usually perform updates directly via the app, or download them from the manufacturer's official support page. Not sure which version you need? Get in touch and we'll point you to the right one.
Ajax alarm systems
What is the difference between the Ajax Hub, Hub 2 and Hub 2 Plus?
The Hub is the control panel of your Ajax system. The basic Hub suits smaller installations; the Hub 2 additionally supports photo verification via MotionCam detectors; and the Hub 2 Plus offers more communication channels (two SIM cards, Wi-Fi and Ethernet) and room for larger installations with more devices and users. Not sure which one fits? We're happy to advise you based on the size of your premises.
Do I need a subscription for Ajax?
No, the Ajax app and the notifications to your phone are free; you don't need a subscription for those. A subscription is only needed if you want to connect the system to a professional monitoring centre (private alarm receiving centre) or use a mobile SIM card for the backup connection.
Does Ajax still work during a power or internet outage?
Yes. The Hub has a built-in backup battery that keeps the system powered for several hours during a power outage. For internet outages you can combine multiple connections (Ethernet, Wi-Fi and mobile 4G), so the system keeps reporting via a second channel if one drops.
What is the range of the Ajax components?
Ajax uses its own wireless Jeweller protocol with a long range (up to several hundred metres in open field; less indoors due to walls and floors). If a detector is too far away, you place a ReX radio signal range extender to extend the range. We're happy to think through the layout with you.
What is MotionCam (photo verification) with Ajax?
MotionCam is a motion detector with a built-in camera. When an alarm triggers, it takes a series of photos, so you can see straight away in the app what caused the alert. That way you can tell a real break-in from a false alarm, for example one caused by a pet.
Can I operate Ajax with a keypad, key fob or app?
Yes. You can arm and disarm the system via the app, with a wireless key fob (SpaceControl) or with a keypad (KeyPad). That way everyone in the home or business can choose the method that suits them best.
Can I set up multiple users or rooms?
Yes. You can add multiple users, each with their own permissions, and divide your premises into rooms and groups (for example arming and disarming the ground floor or the warehouse separately). You manage it all clearly in the Ajax app.
Is Ajax suitable for business use and insurance?
Ajax is widely used both at home and in business, and many components are certified (including Grade 2). For insurance requirements or a certified handover with connection to a monitoring centre, we're happy to help you through a project request.
Hikvision & Hik-Connect
What is Hik-Connect and where do I download it?
Hik-Connect is Hikvision's free app with which you view and manage your cameras, recorders and doorbells remotely. You download it from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). Create a free account once and then add your devices.
How do I link my Hikvision camera to Hik-Connect?
Open the app, log in and tap the + to add a device. Scan the QR code on the sticker of the camera or recorder, or enter the serial number manually. The app then asks for the device's verification code. Can't work it out? We'll guide you step by step by phone.
What is the verification code of my Hikvision device?
The verification code is a unique code on the sticker of your camera or recorder, often labelled "Code" or "Verification Code". You need it to link the device to Hik-Connect and to encrypt the footage. Changed it yourself and lost it? Then reset the device to factory settings.
My device shows "offline" in Hik-Connect, what now?
First check that the camera or recorder has an internet connection (network cable properly connected, light active). Then restart the device and your router, and check in the settings whether "Platform Access" (Hik-Connect / P2P) is enabled and shows the status "online". If it keeps going wrong, we're happy to help you further.
Do I need to open ports (port forwarding) for Hikvision?
In most cases, no. Hik-Connect works via P2P, so you can watch remotely without manual port settings. Port forwarding is only needed for specific situations, such as integration with certain external systems. For home use, P2P via the app is the simplest and secure.
What does AcuSense mean with Hikvision?
AcuSense is Hikvision's smart detection technology that distinguishes between people, vehicles and other motion (such as leaves or animals). That way you get targeted notifications and far fewer false alarms, and you can search recordings more easily by "person" or "vehicle".
What is ColorVu with Hikvision?
ColorVu cameras capture images in colour at night too, instead of black-and-white with infrared. Thanks to a light-sensitive lens and (on many models) a built-in white light, at night you see colours such as the colour of clothing or a car, which greatly improves recognisability.
Do I get push notifications on motion?
Yes. In Hik-Connect you can set notifications per camera, so you get a push message on detected motion or (with AcuSense) specifically on a person or vehicle. That way you stay informed without unnecessary notifications.
How do I share my camera with a family member?
In Hik-Connect you can share a device with other accounts. Go to the device's settings, choose "share" and enter the other person's Hik-Connect account (email or mobile). You decide which permissions they get, for example live viewing only.
How do I reset a Hikvision camera or recorder?
A factory reset is usually done via the menu (Configuration → Maintenance) or with the reset button on the device. If you've lost the password, recovery goes via the SADP tool with an export file and verification by Hikvision. To avoid mistakes, we're happy to guide you through it.
What is the default password of Hikvision?
Hikvision devices have no default password: on first use you activate the device yourself by setting your own (strong) password. That's a deliberate security measure. Keep this password safe, as it's needed for access and recovery.
Dahua & DMSS
What is DMSS and where do I download it?
DMSS is Dahua's free app (sometimes found in the stores as gDMSS or iDMSS) with which you view and manage your Dahua cameras, recorders and doorbells remotely. Download it from the App Store or Google Play, create an account and add your devices.
How do I add my Dahua device to DMSS?
Open DMSS, tap the + and choose "SN/Scan". Scan the QR code or enter the serial number (SN), select the device type and enter the device password. Turn on "P2P" in the settings so you can watch remotely without port settings.
What does SMD (Smart Motion Detection) mean with Dahua?
SMD Plus is Dahua's smart detection that only alarms on people and vehicles, and ignores motion from rain, leaves or animals, for example. That way you get more relevant notifications and find recordings faster.
What is Starlight with Dahua?
Starlight is Dahua's night-vision technology for very low-light conditions. These cameras capture clear, detailed images in the dark too (depending on the model in black-and-white or colour), ideal for outdoors and poorly lit spaces.
My Dahua device shows "offline" in DMSS, what can I do?
Check the device's internet connection and cables, restart the recorder/camera and the router, and check whether "P2P" is enabled in the network settings and shows online. Often a restart or a firmware update fixes it. Doesn't work? We're happy to help you further.
Do I get notifications on my phone with Dahua?
Yes. In DMSS you set push notifications per channel, for example on motion or (with SMD) specifically on a person or vehicle. Make sure notifications for the app are allowed in your phone settings.
How do I reset my Dahua camera or recorder?
A factory reset can be done via the menu or with the reset button on the device. Forgotten your password? Recovery usually goes via security questions or an email code you set during the first installation, or via the ConfigTool. We're happy to guide you through it so nothing goes wrong.
Mixing brands & technical
Can I combine cameras from different brands?
Often you can, via the open ONVIF standard, but with limitations: brand-specific smart features (such as AcuSense or SMD) usually work only within the same brand. For the best experience we recommend combining cameras and recorder of the same brand. Not sure? Ask us before you order.
What is ONVIF and why is it useful?
ONVIF is an open standard that lets IP cameras and recorders from different brands communicate with each other. Useful if you want to mix brands or reuse an existing recorder. Bear in mind that via ONVIF you get the basic functions, but not always all of a brand's advanced features.
Can I connect Dahua cameras to a Hikvision recorder (or vice versa)?
Technically that's often possible via ONVIF, but it isn't always fully supported and smart features may be lost. For a stable, fully working installation we recommend choosing cameras and recorder of the same brand. We're happy to think through the right combination with you.
How much bandwidth and storage do I need?
That depends on the number of cameras, the resolution (e.g. 4MP or 8MP), the frame rate and how long you want to keep footage. More megapixels and a longer retention time mean more storage. We're happy to help you calculate the right hard disk and network capacity for your situation.
What is PoE and do I need a special switch?
PoE (Power over Ethernet) delivers both data and power to your camera over a single network cable, so you don't need a separate power socket at the camera. A PoE recorder (NVR) often already has the PoE ports built in; otherwise you use a separate PoE switch. We're happy to tell you exactly what you need.
Laws & regulations
What am I legally allowed to do with camera surveillance?
You may secure your own home, garden or business premises with cameras. It's important to capture as little as possible of the public road or your neighbours' property, and to make clear that camera surveillance is in use, for example with a sticker or sign. For businesses, additional rules apply under the GDPR. When in doubt, consult the current guidelines of the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Am I allowed to record audio with my camera?
Recording audio is subject to stricter rules than video and is not simply allowed in many situations. Only turn on audio recording if there's a good reason for it, and respect the privacy of others. When in doubt, consult the guidelines of the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Do I have to register my camera surveillance somewhere?
For private use on your own property you usually don't have to register anything, provided you follow the privacy rules. As a business you have an information obligation under the GDPR (for example with signs) and sometimes additional obligations. For your own situation, check the website of the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
How long may I keep my camera footage?
As a guideline, you should keep footage no longer than necessary; for many situations a period of about 4 weeks is used, unless an incident has been recorded. For businesses, more specific rules may apply. When in doubt, consult the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
